This article and last year's one quite perfectly encapsulates my own thoughts and feelings about BTS. Thank you for your writing!

The interviews from the members (apparently in a documentary filmed and released by Hybe themselves) have been disastrous. They are openly admitting to disliking the songs on the album, referring to heavy executive meddling, being opposed to English lyrics and even the name of the album being Arirang. They are openly saying they have no idea what the message of the album is supposed to be and what it is supposed to signify. All of this is a non-event in the online fandom, partly because I don't think any real fans are left and those who are left want the mirage.

The members seem conflicted. I get the vibe they have outgrown the group and would rather just do their own thing. I am also cynical about the decision to release such a documentary. It's been framed with the usual lens of BTS's never ending struggles but this time a struggle against their own company and a struggle to define what the group is supposed to be anymore. I wonder what Hybe really thinks it is doing by releasing this documentary. Are they trying to show how authentic the BTS members are despite company meddling or is it a message to the fans that this is what BTS is now and they need to compromise?
